Welcome to the first online website devoted to the history of the Continental Basketball Association, and its predecessors, the Eastern Basketball Association and the Eastern Professional Basketball League. Formed in 1946, the CBA is the oldest professional North American basketball league still in operation today. Originally formed as a Northeastern circuit, the CBA's teams now span the United States, and have occasionally entered Mexico and Canada as well. The league played for 63 seasons, eventually closing with the completion of the 2008-09 season. This website is devoted to the history of the CBA and its players, coaches, owners and fans. Your contributions to this website are greatly appreciated.
The CBA Museum will eventually have statistics regarding players, coaches, teams and league records. At the moment, we have several items avaialble for viewing. Click on the "galleries" toolbar to access images of CBA and Eastern League programs, pocket schedules, and other items. |
After much research, the CBA Museum is proud to announce that the long-lost first five seasons of the Eastern Professional Basketball League (the CBA's predecessor) are now available as purchaseable downloads - the 1946-47, 1947-48, 1948-49, 1949-50, and the NEW 1950-51 season. Very few statistics have survived from the CBA / Eastern League's early years. The CBA Museum has begin work on restoring and recreating the original statisics from newspaper boxscores, scrapbooks and programs. The goal of this project will be to re-establish the league's earliest statistical database. Currently, there are no player statistics available before the 1958-59 season. Even so, the CBA Museum will only be able to restore field goals, free throws and won-loss records for these years, as those were the only stats reported in the newspapers. In an effort to unite today's statistical programs with the research of the past, the CBA Museum has purchased a copy of the DakStats program, currently used by the league to provide statistical information.
The 1946-47 and 1947-48 CBA (Eastern Professional Basketball League) seasons have restored and are available as purchaseable downloads. Click on the "Buy Now" button above and send $4 to receive a downloaded PDF copy of each yearly abstract.
Due to the voluminous size of the opening splash page, and in an effort to make team listings easier to find, the CBA Teams page can be accessed by clicking on this link.
