Michigan Mayhem
CBA 2004-present

The Michigan Mayhem joined the CBA in 2004 as an expansion franchise, making team owner Jannie Scott the first African-American female majority owner of a professional sports franchise. Although the Mayhem's first season did not produce a playoff run (18-30), it was notable for the scoring of Sam Mack, who averaged 22 points in 31 games with the team. Charles Gaines, also with the Mayhem, led the league in rebounds (502 in 44 games, 11.4 per game), while Darrick Martin's 91% free throw accuracy (100 of 109) was tops among all CBA players.

The Mayhem's second season started out with great promise, as Darrick Martin received a call-up from the Toronto Raptors; and the Mayhem, led by dominating scoring from Alpha Bangura (37 pts) and Stais Boseman (18 pts), won their home opener, 106-84, over Albany.

But at was one of only eight games the Mayhem would win all year. Player defections and injuries decimated the team; Bangura was traded to the Idaho Stampede; Boseman served a game suspension for punching the Rockford Lightning's mascot; mid-season signee Roy Tarpley played only a few games before fracturing his hand. By the end of the season, the Mayhem's roster consisted of CBA veteran Willie Simms, Jason Boucher (who remained with the team throughout the season), Johnnie White and several other mid-season signees.
